This report details the condition of the
county’s street lighting columns and seeks approval for
additional Capital investment of £8.35m to replace 3,300 of
the most deteriorated units which are an urgent priority. It also
seeks approval to complete the condition survey of lighting columns
in the Carlisle area following the surrender of Claim Rights by the
City Council
The Corporate Director - Environment and Community Services reported on a proposal to replace approximately 3300 of the Council’s existing lighting columns, including lanterns and cable networks, which were life expired and carry out a structural survey of approximately 9000 street lights.
The estimated cost for this proposal was £8.35 million, spread over three years, which would ultimately realise annual maintenance (£66k) and energy (£31k) revenue savings. However the primary purpose of the proposal was to refresh the life expired street light columns.
RESOLVED, that the approval of an additional scheme in the capital programme for highways, with a budget of £8.35 million over 3 years to replace approximately 3,300 existing, life expired, street light columns, including lanterns and cable networks, and carry out a structural survey of approximately 9,000 further street light columns be RECOMMENDED to Council.
