Cabinet is being asked to consider the
adoption of the Local Government Association (LGA) ‘Climate
Local’ as a framework to identify energy opportunities and
build climate resilient communities. It is a priority of the
Council to use resources more efficiently and effectively and to
lessen the impact of our activities on communities and the
environment. The adoption of Climate Local is identified in the
Council Plan Delivery Plan as one of the actions which could be
taken to achieve this priority. If adopted it could enable the
council and residents to identify and take action to improve
resource efficiency and reduce energy costs.
The Corporate Director – Environment and Community Services presented a report seeking approval for Council to adopt the Local Government Association (LGA) Climate Local Commitment as a framework to identify energy opportunities and build climate resilient communities.
Climate Local was a Local Government Association initiative to drive, inspire and support council action on a changing climate. The initiative supported councils’ efforts both to reduce carbon emissions and also to improve their resilience to the effects of more frequent and severe extreme weather events. Climate Local supersedes the Nottingham Declaration, to which the Council was a signatory in 2007.
RESOLVED,that the Local Government Association’s Climate Local Initiative be adopted and used as a framework to identify energy opportunities and build climate resilient communities.
