The Corporate Director – Children’s Services presented a report which  provided analysis on the formal consultation from 27 October to 21 November 2014 by the county council to enable Members to decide whether or not to bring forward a statutory proposal for the proposed discontinuance (closure) of Ravenstonedale Endowed School and the re-designation of its catchment area. The consultation document was attached as Appendix A.

The report explained the background to the proposed school closure and asked Members to decide which option to pursue.

Members noted that any decision to publish a statutory notice, triggered the beginning of a formal ‘representation period’, during which, interested parties could submit their views on the proposals.  Following the end of this period, Cabinet would be required to make a decision on whether to implement the proposals.  If the decision was to publish statutory proposals it was planned that a report to enable Members to make a decision on whether or not to implement the proposals would be presented to Cabinet in March 2015.  Final implementation of the proposals would be on 10 April 2015.

The Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning moved the recommendations as set out in the resolution below

RESOLVED,    that

                           (1)       after considering the consultation feedback Cabinet agree to publish the statutory notice required to close Ravenstonedale Endowed School;

                           (2)       after considering the specific feedback on the redesignation of catchment areas Cabinet agree that the Ravenstonedale catchment be subsumed wholly by that of Kirkby Stephen Primary School;

(3)   Cabinet agree to allocate the associated funding required with effect from the implementation date to support new home to school transport in line with statutory guidance.
