Purpose:

Approval to award the contract for the provision of the Council main insurance cover

Decisions:

The Corporate Director – Resources reported on the Council’s main insurance contract due to expire at the end of April 2015.  Due to the size and duration of the contract (three years plus 2 optional 12 month extensions), Cabinet authorisation to commence procurement was sought and obtained at the 6 June 2013 meeting (as per the Contracts Procedure Rules paragraph 3.4).

 

In view of the size and complexity of the contract work on the detailed procurement exercise began in June 2013, in advance of the expiration of the current contract.  Officers in the Council’s Insurance section have worked closely with the Council’s appointed insurance consultant (Marsh) to undertake the retender process for the provision of this service. 

 

The tendering process had now been completed and this report sought approval to award the contract for the Council’s main insurances to Zurich Municipal on the basis that they submitted the most economically advantageous tender.

 

RESOLVED,that

 

(1)   the contract for the provision of the Council’s main insurances to begin on the 1st May 2015  be awarded to Zurich Municipal on the basis that they submitted the most economically advantageous tender;

 

(2)   the levels of internal and external insurance incorporated in the main insurance contract as detailed in Appendix A of this report be approved.
