In March 2014 Cabinet passed the Anti-Poverty
Strategy (2014-17) and agreed to receive an annual report which
updated Cabinet on progress in the Delivery Plan and sought
agreement on the refresh of actions for the next year’s
The Assistant Director – Corporate Governance presented a report which provided Cabinet with a review of achievements and progress in year 1 of the 2014-2017 Anti-Poverty Strategy. The report also provided a high-level summary of areas of focus for 2015-16.
The Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Services proposed an amendment to the wording on page 15, para 4.11 in relation to grants to read ‘to encourage local committees to use the grants they give to support communities to tackle poverty’ and cabinet were happy to accept that amendment.
Members were positive of the moves to encourage other employers to adopt the living wage and the efforts being made to promote this through the council’s procurement. It was agreed that the message on encouraging people to reduce their energy costs be strengthened and likewise the focus on helping disadvantaged pupils raise their confidence and self belief.
RESOLVED,that subject to the minor amendments agreed
(1) progress and achievements made during the delivery of the Anti-Poverty Strategy in 2014 be noted;
(2) the Year 2 Delivery Plan detailed in appendix 1 to the report be agreed.
