Proposed Closure of Southfield Technology College and Stainburn School and Science College and the Presumption of a New Academy in Workington

Following the Ofsted outcome on 15 January 2014 to place both schools in special measures, a consultation on the closure of Stainburn and Southfield schools and the opening of a new single school in Workington as an academy, commenced on 20 January 2014 and will end on 3 March 2014.    This report is to seek approval from Members, with the aid of analysis from the consultation, to make the decision to publish a statutory proposal on the closure of both schools and to open a single secondary school in Workington.

Consultation with schools’ staff, governors, parents and the community on 4 & 5 February 2014.  Consultation will also take place with the pupils via the school councils.
