Publication of Notices for the Closure of Southfield Technology College and Stainburn School and Science College and the Opening of a New Academy in Workington

Following the consultation on the closure of Stainburn and Southfield Schools and the opening of a new single school in Workington as an academy which ended on 3 March 2014, Cabinet decided on 3 April 2014 to proceed with the recommendation to publish statutory notices.  This report is to seek approval from Members, with the aid of any representations received during the four week process to close both schools and open a new single school in Workington.

Consultees

Consultation with schools’ staff, governors, parents and the community took place on on 4 & 5 February 2014.  Further consultation took place with the pupils via the school councils.  A four week representation period will commence following the publication of the statutory notice where stakeholders can again put forward their views.
